Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme

Quotes

Quote from a current apprentice:

"I am currently working in ISIS as part of a maintenance team. I have been extremely impressed by the jobs that i have been involved in which include wiring a workshop with lathes, mills and pillar drills so that it is fully operational. These jobs have given me a wide variety of engineering skills. Also i have been encouraged to do a HNC course which i am sponsored to do by the laboratory improving my engineering and academic skills. I think that Rutherford Appleton is a great place to work, as everyone i have met is friendly and helpful if any problems need to be answered. I would recommend this apprentice scheme to anybody who want a future in cutting edge engineering." - Mike Van De Mortel

"I am currently in the Central Laser Facility, working in the target area west for the Vulcan Laser. I have just moved into the 2nd year doing a national certificate at college and i am enjoying the course. I am enjoying my current work and cracking on with the scheme's paperwork as well." - Ed Wood

"I am currently working as a third year mechanical apprentice, in the Cryogenics Facility. There is a wide range of work in this department: cooling pipe-work on satellites, vacuum systems, cleanroom assemblies, building internal components for satellite dishes, as well as doing detailed CSD drawings. One of my favourite placements was at the Synchrotron in Grenoble in the south of France! These are just a few of many exciting placements as part of the RAL apprentice scheme." - Alan Thompson
